Clinical Case - NEW!
The research data, clinical evidence, and practical strategies presented in CMHC's educational events have a purpose: to be applied in your practice with the goal of improving and lengthening your patients' lives. Let's dive into September's clinical case, first presented at CMHC's Spring 2022 Congress in Scottsdale by Holly R. Wyatt, MD. Here are the details of Dr. Wyatt's patient case:
32-year old female
Weight 195 lbs, height 5 ft 10 inches, BMI = 28
Waist circumference 35 inches
Married with two children, husband is overweight
Reports weight gain of 2-3 lbs per year
She weighed 175 lbs at 22 and 185 lbs at 26
Family history: Father died at 47 from a heart attack while playing tennis, mother is healthy, no other family history of cardiovascular disease
No personal history of heart problems or chest pain
She is on no medications
The only remarkable finding on exam is an elevated systolic blood pressure of 135/72 mmHg
EKG is normal
Labs are within normal limits except: TG 165 mg/dl, HDL 45 mg/dl, HA1C 6.0%
A recent workup of her heart reveals no detectable cardiovascular disease
Based on this presentation, what lifestyle interventions can be initiated to optimize the outcomes for Dr. Wyatt's patient?
Lose weight (5%-10%)
Stop the weight gain (maintain current weight)
Change the quality of her diet
Increase her activity level
Decrease her sedentary activity
Do nothing at this point
